After-School Arts Program operates Monday through Friday from 3:00 p.m.-6:00 p,m. and consists of homework instruction, painting, Dance, Writing, Drama/Acting Clinic, Prop Construction/Set Design and Theatrical Performance.
Dance Class: will challenge students to move in new and creative ways. We will explore various dance styles ranging from hip-hop to ballet to jazz. Participants will learn choreography and also have the opportunity to create their own work. The student’s work will be presented in a series of informal showings and at the end of summer camp.
Visual Arts Class: introduce students to a variety of mediums from Commercial Arts to Fine Arts. students will experience a balance of individual projects (self portraits) and group projects (painting sets). At the end of the session students will develop a Magazine to showcase their work. A Fine Art exhibition will also be staged to display the original art created by students.
Theater Arts Class: combines voice training, dancing, acting and costuming to introduce students to the world of performance arts. After learning through exercises and games, Students work with teachers to develop a theater production.
Poetry/Spoken Word Youth: are exposed to written narratives and tips from a published artist giving them the stimulation needed to create their own body of work. Urban Me is a Spoken Word Workshop where youth openly discuss issues plaguing their young minds. Through a series of exercises and ice- breakers youth learn the tools necessary to express their feelings in a positive and constructive manner. Monthly youth poetry sets allow the youth to express their views and newly learned techniques, in a safe welcoming environment.
